Accessibility Statement
Version 1.9 - Last Updated: June 11, 2026
What's new in this version?
1. Commitment
I am committed to making g-makris.com accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of ability or the technology they use. I aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
2. Built-in Accessibility Features
This site includes several custom accessibility tools, accessible from the Accessibility Settings icon next to the navigation links on desktop, or from the bottom of the mobile navigation menu:
- Voice Assist (TTS) — reads hovered or focused elements out loud with custom voice synthesiser settings (screen-reading aid)
- Dark Mode / Light Mode — choose the visual contrast level that fits your preference
- High Contrast Mode — pure black background, white text, and bright yellow accents for maximum readability
- Bigger Fonts — increases the base font size by 12.5% across the entire site
- Reduce Motion — disables all transitions and decorative animations site-wide (e.g. background effects and scroll sliders)
- Reading Mode — switches article and prose text to a serif font with larger line spacing for optimized readability
Additional technical accessibility features include:
- Full keyboard navigation support throughout the site
- Skip-to-content link for screen reader and keyboard users (press Tab immediately on page load)
- ARIA labels on all interactive elements including buttons, links, and form controls
- Semantic HTML structure with appropriate heading hierarchy
- Descriptive alt text on all meaningful images
- Sufficient colour contrast ratios in all themes, verified against WCAG 2.1 AA (AAA contrast parameters for text in high contrast mode)
- Responsive layout that works on all screen sizes from small mobile to large desktop
- No content that flashes more than three times per second
3. Known Limitations
While I strive for full accessibility, some third-party content embedded in this site is outside my direct control:
- Notion contact form — embedded iframe. You can contact me using this form directly on the site.
Alternative contact options like WhatsApp and LinkedIn are also available on the Contact page.
4. Reporting an Issue
If you encounter any accessibility barrier on this site, please let me know. I take these reports seriously and aim to respond within 5 business days.
Contact: via the Contact page.
5. Technical Approach
This site is built with Next.js and React, using Tailwind CSS and the shadcn/ui component library — which itself is built on Radix UI primitives, providing strong baseline accessibility (focus management, ARIA patterns, keyboard interaction) out of the box. Accessibility is considered at the component level during development, not treated as an afterthought.
6. Formal Complaints
If you are not satisfied with my response to an accessibility issue, you may contact the relevant accessibility authority in your country. In Spain, this is the Centro Nacional de Tecnologías de la Accesibilidad (CENTAC).
